Cafe Ohlala just ruined my day..

Yes, you read it right. How does a coffee shop can ruin your day off ? Stay with me..

After rushing from our office in Kemayoran, I finally arrived to Pacific Place. Traffic was so bad due to demonstration happening on my way to Sudirman area. Dude, better save the gov budget for development / education instead of subsidizing the recent oil bubbles.. anyway..

As planned, I have 15minutes or so before my con-call with my peers in Sg start. First things first, I have to find internet connection so I can show our works live. So, there I saw the ‘Free Wifi’ Banner from Cafe Ohlala. Good offer, I don’t have to go to Starbucks in 5th level, save another 5 minutes, I just need the internet anyway.

But, Free doesn’t means 100% free, I paid a starbucks-price for an ice cappucino home made flavour. It’s fair enough, in fact I don’t care with the coffee as my purpose is to get online asap.

Everything should be okay, internet information is posted near the cash register. The security key is ‘ohlala1234′. Open my laptop - “Airport: Scanning..” and we’ve got the Cafe Ohlala Connection in my wireless lists. Choose the connection, and type the security key that I read before in cash register.

‘*******’ - failed!
(show password)
‘ohlala1234′ - failed!
‘ohlala1234′ (type slowly) - failed!
‘ohlala1234′ (type slowly then stroke the enter button hard) - failed!
WTF???!

Are they limiting the number of online users ? No Way.. There only 5 people with laptop in the room.

So I ask the cashier, whether the password correct or not. And she replied “Sorry Sir, this is only if you buy Food & Drink”

This is a coffee shop cafe in Jakarta’s top business district that print a ‘Free Wifi’ banner, place it in the entrance every single morning, and have the policy of ‘Food AND Drink’.

A second when I hear that, I was expecting the cashier to smile and say “We are kidding..”

and, She’s not! She said it’s the new management policy.. and when I ask her, why didn’t you tell me in the first place ? Or at least post a little note to precede the ‘Free Wifi’ offering.. She lost words and cannot make it.

Honey, I’m not paying another just to get 15 minutes internet connection. And if I did buy the food (pastry, soup, croissant or pizza) I will eat instead of browsing rite ?  (??!!)

So I just leave the home-made capyiucyinio to her manager, a treat from your customer. I guess the salesman got a new business. Oh boy… oil bubble!

You know what, si Manager dengan mimik biasa-biasa saja bilang “karena bapak gunakan listrik kami…”
Coba bayangin, untung 5 orang kolega gw belum datang, kan malu-maluin.

    WHAT A FANTASTIC CAFE!

hehehe.. welcome to the club brow!

Gak kebayang deh, how a well-known branded seperti OhLaLa ini bener2 turn their class that low. Kalau cafe nya di Roxy Mas atau ITC, oke lah.. but ini di Grand Indonesia gitu :) I mean, if they really bothered with the free wifi atau electricity - then gentle dong put a sign yg jelas. Free Wifi for >50k or Buy Drink - Charge your notebook Free…

Sejak kejadian itu, udah gak lagi2 deh ke Cafe Ohlala, any location. Mendingan juga di Starbucks, memang gak free, bayar - but fine. I’m not hoping manajemen mereka will read this complain sih, even if they read - they have to pay additional 50k to each of us :)

Belum pernah coba, but definitely will give a try :)
