Warnetlegos.com & Phishing Filter
I’m helping my team on setting up warnetlegos.com, although it’s managed by our vendor - still we need to track and keeping eyes on the progress. So, What is this warnetlegos.com ? It’s a site provided by our vendor, supported by Microsoft Indonesia to help internet cafes all around Indonesia to :
1. Enroll the software rental agreement(SRA) process
2. Update/Renew the SRA
3. Download the SRA
Software Rental Agreement itself is initiated by Indonesia Subs that eventually trigerred the implementation of ‘Software Rental Agreement’ in many region. Initially it was a police officer in Central of Java who spent his time in learning every single line of the Windows XP EULA (End User License Agreement)
Every single line of it!!!
*can you imagine ? I never-ever in my life read such EULA..(not even in the future)*
…and he found that according to EULA, one is not granted to rent the software in any form to other party. So, that’s the topic for a couple of weeks that made some of my team staying late, working with regional&corp to find the right solution for it… It’s not just working as we had several of our customers is waiting for us in jail.
That was last year…
Today, all of our internet cafe customers are back to their business (btw, they really make a Good Business !) and we are helping them to provide such tools to eliminate administrative tasks & manual process..
Now back to the warnetlegos.com and how it related with the phishing filter. Its a bit ironic, when we start reviewing the site, start from registering a new account using my IE7 beta 2 and suddenly…. *zoink* My Phishing filter activated, and mention something about ‘this website is suspicious.. bla bla blaa…’…
Wow… now, that’s how phishing filter used for!!
All this time I only heard about phishing filter while never know exactly how the features works and how it will benefit & protect the users. So, to avoid bringing the maximum irony to internet cafe owner, we started to report the problem using a normal escalation process. It’s not bad after all, Renee Doenggio is helping us on this and just today I received his forwarded email :

How’s that ? With this phishing filter support, I think IE7 Beta 2 really make a difference from Firefox. Before IE7 released, I used Firefox as alternative.. Why ? There’s only one reason, tabbed browsing! Isn’t browsing with Firefox is faster ? Nay, I dont think that’s a logic reason, do you ?…
Now - I have what I want in IE7… Eventough until today, I still have Firefox installed in my laptop. I still use it for checking compatibility issues & when my IE7 is not responding… :o)
